Orange Wednesday: Standing Together for #JusticeForHanifa
This week’s Orange Wednesday brought another powerful wave of solidarity as supporters, activists, and members of the online community continued to stand with Hanifa Nakiryowa in the call for justice, accountability, and an end to harassment and abuse of power in Uganda’s higher education institutions.
Through photos, videos, orange outfits, and powerful messages shared across social media, supporters turned orange into a symbol of courage, unity, and the determination to ensure that Hanifa’s story is heard. Each post and shared message demonstrates that the demand for justice is not hers alone; it is a collective call for dignity, fairness, and accountability.
The orange campaign continues to inspire people to speak out, stand together, and challenge the silence that often surrounds harassment and abuse of power. By participating in Orange Wednesday, supporters are helping keep this important conversation alive and encouraging others to take action.
At the Centre for Rehabilitation of Survivors of Acid and Burns Violence (CERESAV), we extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has participated in Orange Wednesday, shared the campaign, signed the petition, and encouraged others to join the movement. Your commitment, creativity, and solidarity continue to strengthen the call for justice.
However, solidarity must go beyond wearing orange and sharing posts. We must turn this collective energy into meaningful action by demanding accountability and supporting efforts to protect students’ rights, dignity, and safety.
Support from Women Parliamentarians
The #JusticeForHanifa campaign also acknowledges the support of the Uganda Women Parliamentarians Association (UWOPA). Their support adds an important voice to the collective call for justice, accountability, and the protection of students’ rights and dignity. Engagement from women leaders and advocates is vital in strengthening efforts to address harassment and abuse of power and in promoting safer, more accountable institutions.
CERESAV appreciates all individuals and institutions standing in solidarity with Hanifa Nakiryowa and encourages continued collaboration to ensure that the call for justice remains visible and receives the attention it deserves.
You Can Help Make a Difference
We invite everyone who has not yet signed the petition to add their voice to this growing movement. The petition calls on the Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development, the Ministry of Education and Sports, and the Uganda Human Rights Commission to take action and address concerns about harassment, abuse of power, and accountability within higher education institutions.
Every signature matters. Every share helps the message reach a wider audience. Every voice brings us closer to a society where no one is silenced by fear or denied justice.

Continue wearing orange, sharing your messages, and using #JusticeForHanifa to keep the campaign visible. Together, we can turn public solidarity into a stronger demand for justice and accountability.
Justice must be pursued. Voices must be heard. No story should be left untold.
